How to Wear Tartan Midi Skirt pt.2

I firmly believe in the power of a white shirt. It is the only item that I own multiple variations of in many shapes and sizes. If I had to pick a favourite it would be this though. What better a way to pair a tartan printed pencil skirt than with a cropped silk shirt. Don’t even get me started on the floral lace-effect embroidery all over the chest and collar!

I have kept my shoes and accessories closely similar to look number one based around this skirt which makes it even more interesting that simply a change in top and jackets can transform completely the message of each outfit. I found that even after the silk shirt had been toned down with chunky detailing it still remains slightly more elegant than the former grungey look.

2 Ways To Wear Tartan Midi-Skirts

Its finally warm enough to risk a bare leg in England and midi-skirts are the perfect way to get accustomed to no tights for Spring evening looks. I love this navy and black tartan skirt that I picked up in a Topshop sale so much that I’m sharing with you two variations of how I style it.

The first part to this “how to style…” is a tougher 80s Sandy’s makeover kind of look. I’ve layered up a distressed leather jacket and fishnet jumper over an off-the-shoulder crop top. This little top cost just £8 from asos and I can pair it with almost everything in my wardrobe. To finish it off the signature purple lipstick and a scrunchied high ponytail for an overall grungey look.

How To Rock All-Black Through Spring/Summer

Beanie, Bomber jacket, Two-piece, Lipsticks, Patent sandals
Spring doesn’t necessarily have to mean head-to-toe pastel outfits and white stilettos, especially for those of us who have sentimental attachments to our winter wardrobes of black. A two piece can be a light and easy s/s go to, and as shown in this first outfit embroidery can be a way to add a pop of colour if you’ve opted for the all-black. “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking”. For those spring breezes throw on this pink satin bomber jacket, perfectly complimenting the pink floral details.

Tropical kimono, Triangle crop top, Skort, Backpack, Tropical wedge sandals
This summery outfit proves it is possible to embrace refreshing tropical prints whilst still wearing those black staple pieces. Start off on a sophisticated sports luxe base with this Alexander Wang inspired triangle crop top and a ‘scuba skort’. (Working on a budget? These tops are so easy to make!) For a breezy summer touch wear a light kimono on top: this green and white leafy print kimono is spot on.

Celestial Smoke

The sun and moon print collection at Motel has been my absolute favourite seeing as I lust after everything celestial. This dress was a present from a group of friends and it is so perfect. Its billowy smock dress shape is so comfortable and freeing with an edgy lace up back. Its black: my colour of choice but the celestial print makes it stand out from all my other little black dresses. I’ve paired it with fishnet tights, knee high socks, witchy platform shoes and a dark purple lipstick for a stricking/ mysterious look.

For this selection of outfit photos I decided to do something a bit different. I study photography as one of my a-levels and I’ve been trying to incorporate some of the skills I’ve learnt into my blog photos. For these I used all manual settings so hopefully you can see that in the quality and atmosphere of lighting. I also used fog machine from my college’s equipment supply to create the eerie smoke shots. I’ve always loved blogs which take a lot of care in the photography for their posts, which I’ve always tried to portray. However this really is a step up from my usual and I’d love to know what you think in the comments.

Jeffrey Campbell Virginity: My First Pair

My first pair of Jeffrey Campbells- cut-out lace up shoes complete with the signature unicorn box. They are so comfortable and a perfect fit; you definitely get your moneys worth with the quality of these shoes. Seeing as JC dominates and creates most of the highstreet shoe trends (think cut out boots, platform sneakers, cleated soles etc..) it was an honour to finally get my hands on my own pair. The perfect birthday present.

Wearable Optical Illusion

I love the optical illusion style print on this monochrome dress. To toughen up the smock/ babydoll shape I’ve paired it with a buttery leather Allsaints jacket, some chunky heels, dark burgundy lipstick and killer eyeliner flicks.

Tartan at China Town

Recently I went to China Town, London for the first time and appropriately wearing red. I visited at night when I could appreciate the colours and lights the most, however most of the shops were closing. I did catch a glimpse of the lanterns, lucky cats and kimonos they were selling inside (from this post you’ll understand how much I love kimonos). I did have time to enjoy the cuisine though, having amazing dumplings for dinner and Bubble Tea to finish with. I would highly recommend China Town to any London Tourists or even locals who haven’t yet been.

Spring Wishlist: Muted Sophistication

During this transition from Winter to Spring I am starting to subtly add more colour into my all black day-to-day uniform. This is coming in the form of pastel blue pvc and delicate tie-dye triangle bras. I already have this Motel cold-shoulder dress in a blue/navy dye print and I love the cut so much. It is so versatile seeing as I’ve worn it to an 18th birthday party, the opening of the Turner Prize exhibition and just to college. I would highly recommend it and am currently resisting the temptation to get it in this beautiful grey colour as well.

Grey Checks and Plum Lips

This outfit is very muted with most components being a mix of greys. To add an undertone of colour I painted my lips with Topshop’s ‘Depth’ and threw on some metallic purple Docs. Just to prove how murky the colouring of this look is- I got mistaken as a shop assistant for All Saints whilst wearing this! Checked top and jeans Topshop, Wrap cardigan New Look, Purple boots Doc Martens
